One of the World's unique drives and Canada's only all-season public road to cross the Arctic Circle, the Dempster Highway is famous for its colourful alpine tundra landscapes, wildlife, scenic vistas, and memorable driving adventures. This road trip takes you from Whitehorse, through Dawson City, up to Inuvik, NWT and back again.

Package Includes 9 nights accommodation, airport shuttle service, 9 day SUV rental (includes unlimited Km, LDW, Windshield and tire insurance, extra driver and 3rd party liability).

Not included in the package: Transportation to and from Whitehorse, meals, tours and activities, personal extras, gratuities, travel insurance.

Prices are per person and based on shared double occupancy. All prices include GST.

Day tours and activities

Round trip flights from Air North's gateway cities (Vancouver, Victoria, Kelowna, Calgary, Edmonton, Ottawa and Yellowknife).


Day One

Arrive in Whitehorse, Capital City of the Yukon Territory.

Transfer to your hotel located in the heart of the city, not far from the banks of the Yukon River. Whitehorse is small and easy to explore on foot or by vehicle.

Day Two

Drive along the Klondike Highway to Dawson City. Enjoy the scenery and stop in at some of the small Yukon towns along the way.

Day Three

Experience the Gold Rush! Spend the day exploring Dawson and all of the rich history of the area. Go panning for gold, take a day tour to Tombstone Territorial park and get a bird's eye view of the landscape from the Top of the Midnight Dome.

Day Four

Drive through Tombstone Park and the Blackstone Uplands to Eagle Plains, the half-way point between Dawson City and Inuvik. There are very few settlements between the start of the Dempster and Fort MacPherson so this is a good place to take a break and refuel.

Day Five

Drive through a mountainous, almost lunar landscape to Inuvik in the Northwest Territories. Make sure you stop at the Arctic Circle viewpoint on the way, about an hour north of Eagle Plains. Keep your eye out for wildlife and watch the incredible landscapes as you cross the Peel and MacKenzie Rivers.

Day Six

Spend the day exploring the area around Inuvik or driving the new section of the Dempster up to Tuktoyaktuk for the day to check out the Pingo National Landmark!

Day Seven

Drive back down to Eagle Plains. Watch the kaleidoscope of colours from the mosses, lichens and dwarf shrubs that cover the area and keep your eyes open for caribou, sheep, bears, and wolves.

Day Eight

Drive to Dawson City for another shot at finding gold! Explore the many historic buildings and finish off the evening with a can-can show at Diamond Tooth Gertie's.

Day Nine

Drive back to Whitehorse where you will enjoy a last day in the Wilderness City to explore and relax!

Day Ten

Today is departure day! Enjoy a last stroll next to the Yukon River before catching your flight home or starting your next northern adventure!


Due to the nature of this package, changes to the itinerary are a possibility.

Vehicle Rental Options: Deluxe SUV (Large SUV, GMC Yukon or similar)

Extra additional drivers can be added if needed for a fee of $7.95 p/day p/driver.

The minimum age to drive is 21 years old and any driver between 21 to 24 years old must pay an underage fee of $20 p/day p/driver.

Travel to Alaska or other provinces/territory is allowed but must be stated at the moment of booking or directly with the agency on pick up.

To drive on the Dempster Highway you require a 4x4 or AWD car and an agency written permission. With this package, you have both and allow to drive on the Dempster.
